Year in Review
This year was filled with a lot more experiences and lessons learned. I had my very first co-op experience in SABIC, and I absolutely loved it. I have done my first rotation this past fall semester, and now I'm doing my second rotation there this summer. For my job, I moved to Mount Vernon, Indiana, which is in the middle of nowhere basically. There are 3 stop lights, 5 gas stations, cornfields, and that's pretty much it. Before college, Cincinnati was the smallest city I have ever lived in my whole life, so living here was a huge shock for me. There was almost nothing to do everyday. Fortunately, I was not alone. I had 20 other co-ops with me, and we made the most of it. On the weekends, we would travel to nearby cities like Louisville and Chicago. We also had a lot of free time to volunteer our time for those in need. In just the fall semester, I got the opportunity to volunteer for 30 hours. We helped served food to those in need, volunteered at Thanksgiving and Christmas events, helped plant trees in public parks, held a bake sale to raise money for breast cancer, volunteered at the library, and helped organize an Adopt-a-Kid Christmas Program. The other co-ops have truly become like a second family to me. We supported each other through all sorts of obstacles and problems at work. We always helped each other throughout, and I never felt a lone. I felt truly grateful because I never expected to make so many good friends on co-op. I was also able to gain a lot of work experience in SABIC. On my first semester, I was placed in the finishing department and helped organized process instructions for the operators. Currently, on my second co-op term, I am working at a chemical operations unit in which I work closely with the operators and engineers to help fix everyday problems at the chemical plant. SABIC is one of the biggest chemical companies out there, and I have truly enjoyed the opportunity to just work in such a big chemical plant, with such great people.
This past spring semester I was also able to gain more experiences. I travelled to Purdue University for an AIChE Conferences, I served as Director of Fundraising for Phi Sigma Rho, as a CEAS Ambassador, and as Director of External Relations for AIChE. I mostly enjoyed my position in AIChE, and will be serving as their External Vice President in the upcoming fall semester.
I look forward to gain more experiences and learn more things in the upcoming year.
